FDA Approves Novel Combination Therapy for High-Risk Kidney Cancer

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized a new combination of drugs, KEYTRUDA and WELIREG, for the adjuvant treatment of certain adult patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma. This therapy is specifically for individuals at intermediate-high or high risk of recurrence following surgery. The approval is notable as it represents the first combination of a PD-1 and HIF-2α inhibitor, which demonstrated a 28% reduction in the risk of disease recurrence, metastasis, or death in clinical trials.
