Many patients discontinue and later restart GLP-1 drugs for type 2 diabetes, study finds.

Research presented at ENDO 2026, the Endocrine Society's annual meeting, indicates that many people prescribed GLP-1 drugs (like liraglutide, semaglutide, or tirzepatide) for type 2 diabetes stop taking them but a significant number later restart treatment. The study, which analyzed U.S. claims data from January 2019 to June 2025, found that newer medications appear to improve patient adherence, while side effects remain a primary reason for discontinuation.
