Kentucky Transitions to In-State Medical Cannabis Program, Ending Out-of-State Purchases
Kentucky will soon require residents to obtain a state-issued medical cannabis card to access medical marijuana, ending a previous executive order that allowed out-of-state purchases. This policy change, effective July 1, 2026, coincides with the approval of numerous in-state medical marijuana businesses. Over 24,000 Kentuckians have already received their state medical cannabis cards in anticipation of this transition.
