Landmark Trial Identifies Optimal Antibiotics for Golden Staph Bloodstream Infections

The international SNAP Trial, published in The New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet, found that cefazolin and benzylpenicillin are safer and equally effective alternatives to flucloxacillin, which has long been the standard treatment for methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) and penicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (PSSA) bloodstream infections. The study involved over 150 hospitals across more than 14 countries and is expected to shift clinical practice.
