Clinical trial suggests alternative antibiotics for golden staph bloodstream infections
Findings from the international Staphylococcus aureus Network Adaptive Platform (SNAP) Trial indicate potential shifts in treating golden staph bloodstream infections. The study suggests that cefazolin is as effective as flucloxacillin for methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) with fewer side effects. Additionally, benzylpenicillin was found to be as effective as cloxacillin for penicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (PSSA) infections, causing less kidney damage.
