New Trial Identifies Safer Antibiotics for Staph Infections

The SNAP Trial, the largest study on Staphylococcus aureus infections, challenges previous treatment assumptions by finding cefazolin and benzylpenicillin to be effective alternatives to cloxacillin. Published in the New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet, the research shows these antibiotics are at least as effective, with fewer side effects and a reduced risk of kidney injury. This suggests a potential shift in standard treatment protocols for both methicillin-susceptible and penicillin-susceptible Staph infections.
