Residents Sue Robeson County Over Landfill Contamination Alleging PFAS in Drinking Water

A lawsuit has been filed against Robeson County, North Carolina, alleging that the county's landfill has been leaching per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) into drinking water for years. The lawsuit, filed in federal district court, claims that the contamination poses an 'imminent and substantial endangerment to health or the environment.' Elevated levels of GenX, a type of PFAS, have been found in samples from the landfill's surface water, groundwater, and leachate. PFAS exposure is linked to increased risks of cancer, thyroid disease, reproductive problems, and developmental delays in children.
