New Clinical Model Aims to Personalize Statin Muscle-Risk Counseling

A new clinical prediction model, based on a large retrospective cohort study from England, could help clinicians more clearly discuss serious muscle risks with patients considering or taking statins. The model focuses on clinically significant events, such as muscle disorders leading to hospitalization or death, rather than mild muscle symptoms. The study, published in Lancet Digital Health, found serious muscle disorders to be rare, with a cumulative incidence of 0.44% at ten years in the validation cohort.
