AAP Updates Guidance on Pediatric Iron Deficiency Screening and Treatment
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has released updated clinical guidance for the prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia, now extending recommendations to children and adolescents up to 18 years of age. The new report advises universal screening for breastfed infants between 9 and 12 months, formula-fed infants between 15 and 18 months, and female adolescents within one year after menarche or by age 14.
