Combined Bladder and Kidney Transplant Shows Sustained Function at Six Months

A phase 0 feasibility trial has reported the successful outcome of the first-ever vascularized bladder allograft transplantation in a human, demonstrating sustained function, sensation, continence, and spontaneous voiding over a six-month period. The procedure was performed on a 41-year-old man suffering from end-stage kidney disease and a nonfunctional bladder. This early evidence suggests the technical feasibility of such a complex transplant for carefully selected patients.
