US Reports Over 4,100 Cyclospora Infections, 308 Hospitalized Amid Lettuce Source Dispute

An ongoing outbreak of parasitic stomach illness, cyclosporiasis, has infected more than 4,100 people across the United States, leading to 308 hospitalizations in 41 states. US officials have linked the outbreak to lettuce grown in Mexico, specifically iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico, which initiated a recall on July 17, 2026. However, Mexico's Health Ministry disputes these findings, stating no evidence has been found to indicate the outbreak originated in Guanajuato. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is also reviewing 7,400 suspected cases, indicating the total number of infections is likely to rise.
