Lancet Report Recommends Paradigm Shift in HIV Care for Older Adults

A new report published in The Lancet HIV, led by researchers at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Yale School of Medicine, recommends a comprehensive 'healthy-aging' approach for health systems caring for older individuals with HIV. This paradigm shift moves beyond standard antiretroviral therapy to address the distinct challenges of HIV prevention, screening, treatment, and long-term care in an aging population, which is projected to include half of all people with HIV by 2040. Recommendations include monitoring physiological age, minimizing polypharmacy, and promoting mental health and healthy lifestyles.
