The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported an "exceptional" intensification of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, making it the largest recorded outbreak in the country's history. As of July 30, 2026, there were 3,605 confirmed cases and 1,587 deaths, with a case fatality rate of 44%. The current outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain, for which no approved vaccine or treatment exists.
