New research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reveals that wastewater surveillance systems, previously utilized for tracking COVID-19, are now being adapted to monitor the dietary habits of populations. This technology, called FoodSeq-FLOW, identifies DNA markers of plants and animals in human feces from wastewater samples, offering a real-time window into community nutrition.
