Intratumoral Fusobacterium Identified as Prognostic and Predictive Biomarker in Colorectal Cancer

First results from the multicenter FUSOMAP project, published in ESMO Open and led by VHIO, indicate that the presence of intratumoral Fusobacterium in resectable stage I–III colorectal cancer (CRC) is associated with more aggressive disease, a weaker immune response, and limited benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy. This finding supports the potential use of Fusobacterium as a prognostic and predictive biomarker for CRC patients.
