US Cardiovascular Spending Surges as Death Rates Increase in Some Cities

A new study reveals US spending on cardiovascular disease more than tripled to over $220 billion between 2000 and 2022. Despite this, cardiovascular death rates have stagnated nationally and risen in certain major cities like Hampton Roads, Virginia, with over 3,100 deaths in five cities in 2024. Disparities, particularly affecting Black residents, are linked to limited access to healthcare, nutritious food, and safe exercise spaces, highlighting persistent health equity challenges.
