Study Suggests Longer Treatment Observation Period for Schizophrenia Symptoms

A new research study published in *Lancet Psychiatry* indicates that clinical trials for schizophrenia treatments should account for varying timelines in symptom improvement. The study found that while some symptoms, such as hostility and excitability, may show substantial improvement within three to four weeks, other critical symptoms like negative symptoms and cognitive/disorganization symptoms may require up to eight weeks to demonstrate significant therapeutic effects. This suggests that patients currently identified as "non-responders" in shorter trials might simply need more time to respond to antipsychotic treatment, potentially influencing future clinical practice and trial design.
