Fresenius Kabi Issues Nationwide Recall of Morphine Sulfate Injection Due to Label Mix-Up, Posing Risk of Serious Harm or Death
Fresenius Kabi has initiated a voluntary nationwide recall of one lot of Morphine Sulfate Injection, USP in a Simplist® Prefilled Syringe (2 mg/1 mL) because the MicroVault labeled as Morphine 2 mg/1 mL may contain a prefilled syringe of Dilaudid (hydromorphone HCl) 0.5 mg/0.5 mL. This mix-up carries a reasonable probability of causing serious adverse health consequences, including life-threatening respiratory depression and death, particularly in opioid-naïve patients, those with respiratory conditions, pediatric patients, and individuals taking other CNS depressants.
