U.S. Restaurant Chains Grapple with Ongoing Salmonella and Cyclosporiasis Outbreaks

U.S. health officials are investigating a Salmonella outbreak linked to Mexican jalapeño peppers, which has sickened 345 people across 27 states and prompted a recall by Coast Citrus Distributors. Separately, the largest known cyclosporiasis outbreak, traced to shredded iceberg lettuce from central Mexico, has expanded to 15 states, sickening 6,358 people and causing two deaths in Michigan. Chipotle Mexican Grill and Qdoba have stopped serving affected jalapeño peppers, and Taco Bell was previously linked to the cyclosporiasis outbreak.
