FDA Issues Emergency Use Authorization for Wound Spray to Combat New World Screwworm Outbreak in Texas Livestock and Wildlife

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for CLiK Extra, a wound spray designed to prevent New World screwworm infestations in livestock and various wildlife species in Texas. This regulatory action provides a new tool to help contain an ongoing outbreak that has resulted in 45 confirmed infestations, as wild animals can contribute to the spread of the parasitic fly. The FDA emphasized that this is an emergency authorization, not a full approval, based on the totality of available scientific evidence.
