Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have achieved a significant milestone in stroke rehabilitation, demonstrating that implanted electrical stimulation devices can improve hand and arm mobility in stroke survivors with severe motor deficits. A four-week pilot clinical trial, recently published in Nature Medicine, showed an average 32% increase in arm strength, overall improved arm mobility, and reduced abnormal muscle stiffness.
