Fridge-Free Tetanus-Diphtheria Vaccine Shows Promise in First Human Trial

UK scientists have successfully conducted the first human trial of a tetanus-diphtheria vaccine reformulated to remain stable without refrigeration for up to two years at 30°C. Published in eClinicalMedicine (part of The Lancet group), the study describes drying a licensed vaccine into a powder using trehalose, storing it at room temperature, and then reconstituting it with water for injection. This innovation could significantly improve vaccine accessibility and reduce waste in remote areas with unreliable power and refrigeration.
