CDC Updates on Multistate Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Jalapeño Peppers, Leading to Extensive Recalls

The CDC and public health officials are investigating a multistate outbreak of *Salmonella* infections linked to jalapeño peppers from Sinaloa, Mexico, distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors. Taylor Fresh Foods has recalled 20 products containing these jalapeños, sold under various brands including Kroger, Target, and Trader Joe's, across multiple states. The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service also issued a public health alert for meat and poultry products containing the potentially contaminated jalapeños. As of August 4, 2026, 345 cases have been reported across 27 states, resulting in 36 hospitalizations. Consumers are advised to discard any recalled products immediately.
