CDC Alerts to Summer Increase in Cyclosporiasis Cases and Iceberg Lettuce Recall

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is alerting healthcare providers and the public to a seasonal increase in cyclosporiasis cases, an intestinal illness caused by the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. The CDC and FDA are also investigating a multistate outbreak linked to voluntarily recalled iceberg lettuce products sourced from central Mexico. Consumers are advised to discard or return affected products and practice safe food handling.
