New Research Confirms COVID-19 Can Reactivate Dormant Viruses

A new study published in *Nature* confirms that COVID-19 can reactivate dormant viruses, specifically those in the herpes and Anelloviridae families, in the body. Researchers analyzed data from 1,154 people hospitalized with COVID-19 and found that nearly half experienced a viral reactivation, even in individuals with otherwise normal immune systems. While the study suggests a potential contribution of viral reactivation to severe acute COVID-19 and Long COVID, the researchers caution that these results do not prove causation.
