The death toll from an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has exceeded 2,000, with 4,381 confirmed cases across five provinces. Health officials describe this as the fastest-spreading outbreak ever recorded, with more than 400 additional confirmed infections and over 200 deaths reported since the previous week. The Bundibugyo species of Ebola virus, responsible for this outbreak, currently has no approved vaccines or treatments.
