Large Study in JAMA Validates CKD Threshold, Links Lower GFR to Increased Adverse Outcomes

A large Swedish study published in JAMA found that a lower measured glomerular filtration rate (mGFR) is associated with increased risks of all-cause mortality, kidney failure, heart failure hospitalization, acute kidney injury, and major adverse cardiovascular events. The findings support the current chronic kidney disease (CKD) diagnostic threshold of 60 mL/min/1.73 m².
