Ten-Year Data Reinforce Antibiotics as a Viable Option for Uncomplicated Appendicitis

Long-term observational follow-up data from the multicenter Appendicitis Acuta (APPAC) trial, published in JAMA, support the use of antibiotics as an effective treatment option for adult patients with uncomplicated acute appendicitis. This evidence aligns with new appendicitis guidelines published in early 2026 by the World Society of Emergency Surgery, which advocate for nonoperative management with antibiotics in selected patients.
