Half of Prostate Focal Therapy Patients Fall Outside Guideline Recommendations
A study analyzing National Cancer Database records found that approximately half of the nearly 1.18 million men with nonmetastatic prostate cancer who received focal therapy from 2010 through 2023 had either low-risk or high- to very high-risk disease. Current guidelines do not support focal therapy for these risk groups, suggesting that the approach is frequently being used outside recommended patient populations. For low-risk patients, active surveillance may be more appropriate, while high-risk patients may require more aggressive treatments.
