FDA Upgrades Salmonella Egg Recall to Class I, Highest Risk Level

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reclassified a recall of nearly 19 million eggs due to Salmonella Enteritidis contamination to a Class I designation, indicating a reasonable probability that consuming the product could cause serious adverse health consequences or death. The recall covers white and brown shell eggs produced by Midwest Poultry Services, LP, at Texas farms between June 6 and July 3, 2026, sold under various brands including Kroger, Brookshire's, Country Morning, Simple Truth, and Cal-Maine Sunups. As of the latest update, 98 people across 17 states have been infected, with 26 hospitalizations reported.
