Democratic Republic of Congo's Ebola Outbreak Crosses 100 Days with Over 5200 Cases, Transmission Outpacing Control Efforts

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has surpassed 100 days, recording over 5200 cases, making it the country's fastest-growing outbreak. Transmission is currently outpacing control efforts, necessitating a substantial scale-up in response. The outbreak has spread to a sixth province, with Ituri being the epicenter, accounting for about 85% of cases and 79% of deaths. Despite challenges, laboratory capacity has expanded from one to 19 testing sites, and treatment capacity has increased to over 1300 beds. Community engagement activities have reached more than 2.5 million people, and contact follow-up has improved to 84%.
