U.S. Government Procures Fetroja (cefiderocol) to Combat Drug-Resistant Bacterial Threats
The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority's (BARDA) Project BioShield has exercised a $36.9 million procurement option with Shionogi Inc. to acquire Fetroja® (cefiderocol). This antibiotic is a critical countermeasure against difficult-to-treat Gram-negative bacterial infections and high-priority biothreat pathogens, including those causing melioidosis and plague. The contract also includes plans to establish a U.S. manufacturing site for Fetroja and expand its utility for pediatric patients.
