Ebola Outbreak in Eastern Congo Expands to 60 Health Zones, Spreading Rapidly

The rapidly growing Ebola outbreak in eastern Congo has spread to two new health zones, Biena and Manguredjipa, bringing the total affected areas to 60. The outbreak, caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus, is spreading at an unprecedented speed, with 5,794 confirmed cases and 2,786 deaths reported. Vaccination efforts with the Ervebo vaccine have begun for health workers, but clinical trials are ongoing for a licensed vaccine specifically for the Bundibugyo virus.
