New Cardiology Trials Present Mixed Results on Angiography-Guided Treatments

Findings from the AIR-STEMI and TARGET-CTCA trials, presented at ESC Congress 2026 and published in The New England Journal of Medicine, offer new insights for critical care cardiology. The AIR-STEMI trial showed functional coronary angiography-guided revascularization reduced adverse events in STEMI patients with multivessel disease. Conversely, TARGET-CTCA found routine CT coronary angiography did not reduce subsequent MI or cardiovascular death in suspected acute coronary syndrome where MI was ruled out.
