AMUNDSEN Trial Reports Early PCSK9 Inhibitor Use Boosts LDL Control Post-MI

Results from the AMUNDSEN trial, presented at ESC Congress 2026 and published in JAMA, indicate that initiating PCSK9 inhibitor therapy (evolocumab) in the cath lab before PCI significantly improved LDL cholesterol control over the first year in patients with acute myocardial infarction. However, the trial did not show a significant difference in clinical outcomes like all-cause death or unplanned cardiovascular hospitalization at one year.
