Early Statin Use Linked to Lower Dementia Risk in Type 2 Diabetes Patients

A study presented at ESC Congress 2026 and published in The Lancet Regional Health – Europe suggests that initiating statin therapy soon after a type 2 diabetes diagnosis is associated with a 15% lower relative risk of dementia compared to no statin treatment. The benefit was greater with earlier initiation. This observational study highlights a potential preventative strategy for dementia, particularly in a high-risk population.
