Anticoagulation Reduces Clot Formation on New Heart Valves After TAVI, ACASA-TAVI Trial Finds

The ACASA-TAVI trial, presented at ESC Congress 2026 and simultaneously published in JAMA, demonstrated that anticoagulation therapy significantly reduced imaging signs of clot formation on new heart valves after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) compared to antiplatelet therapy, without compromising safety. This finding suggests that non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant (NOAC) monotherapy could establish a new antithrombotic treatment paradigm for TAVI patients.
