Early Statin Initiation Linked to Reduced Dementia Risk in Type 2 Diabetes Patients

A study presented at the ESC Congress 2026 and published in The Lancet Regional Health – Europe suggests that early initiation of statins after a type 2 diabetes diagnosis is associated with a lower risk of dementia. The observational study found that early statin treatment was linked to a 15% lower relative risk of dementia over 10 years compared to no statin treatment.
