Early Statin Use Linked to Reduced Dementia Risk in Type 2 Diabetes Patients

Research presented at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress 2026 and published in The Lancet Regional Health – Europe suggests that early initiation of statins after a type 2 diabetes diagnosis is associated with a lower risk of dementia. This observational study indicated that early statin initiation was linked to a 15% lower relative risk of dementia compared to no statin treatment.
