Targeted Lead Placement Does Not Improve Outcomes in Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy for Heart Failure

Results from the DANISH-CRT trial, presented at ESC Congress 2026 and published in The Lancet, indicate that targeted placement of the left ventricular pacing lead did not improve outcomes in patients with heart failure undergoing cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) compared to standard placement. The study, which included 1,000 patients, found no difference in death or first heart failure hospitalization between the two approaches, despite previous observational data suggesting benefits from targeting the latest activated site.
