Four FDA-Approved COVID-19 Vaccines Available for the 2026–27 Season Targeting XFG Variant

The FDA has approved four monovalent COVID-19 vaccines for the 2026–27 season, all designed to target the XFG variant, a descendant of JN.1, to better match circulating SARS-CoV-2 strains. These vaccines, including Moderna's Spikevax and mNexspike, Pfizer-BioNTech's Comirnaty, and Novavax's Nuvaxovid (a non-mRNA option), are approved for adults aged 65 years or older. Younger patients require at least one condition increasing their risk for severe COVID-19.
