NIH Researchers Discover Rare Antibodies with Potential to Combat Alpha-Gal Syndrome

Scientists at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have identified rare antibodies that could lead to new interventions for alpha-gal syndrome (AGS), an emerging tick-bite-associated condition causing allergic reactions to red meat and other animal products. The discovery, made through malaria research and published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, showed these antibodies successfully blocked human allergic antibodies from binding to red meat allergens in laboratory tests.
