New independent research published in the Journal of the American Heart Association suggests that mental health conditions, including alcohol abuse, depression, and anxiety, that develop after traumatic events may increase the risk of future cardiovascular issues such as non-fatal heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular death. Alcohol abuse was identified as the top psychiatric predictor for future cardiovascular risks in both men and women, while mood disorders were more prominent predictors among women.
