Invasive Aedes Aegypti Mosquitoes Detected Breeding in East London, Prompting Enhanced Surveillance

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has initiated enhanced surveillance and trapping activities after detecting invasive Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and larvae breeding at residential properties in east London. This marks the first time this species, known to transmit diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, and Zika virus, has been found breeding in the UK. While the current risk to the public is assessed as very low, control measures have been implemented, and monitoring will continue.
