In-body CAR-T Therapy Shows Promise for Autoimmune Diseases like Multiple Sclerosis

A research team reported in The New England Journal of Medicine that an 'in vivo' strategy, where the patient's body is induced to produce CAR-T cells directly, successfully reset the immune system in patients with autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis without severe side effects. This approach, which involves injecting a lentivirus carrying genetic information to create CAR-T cells, led to decreased levels of rogue B cells and antibodies, and improvements in motor and cognitive function and reduced fatigue in multiple sclerosis patients.
