Paxlovid Found Ineffective for Treating Long COVID in New Randomized Trial
A new NIH-funded randomized trial, published in Lancet Infectious Diseases, has concluded that nirmatrelvir-ritonavir (Paxlovid) does not alleviate symptoms of established long COVID. The study, designed to address limitations of previous trials, found no benefit from either a 15-day or 25-day course of the antiviral compared to placebo across primary endpoints related to cognitive dysfunction, autonomic dysfunction, and exercise intolerance. This reinforces findings from two earlier, smaller trials.
