B. Braun Medical Inc. Recalls Sodium Chloride Injection Due to Particulate Matter

B. Braun Medical Inc. is voluntarily recalling three lots of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection USP, 100 mL, in a 150 mL PAB® Container. The recall is prompted by the presence of particulate matter identified as iron oxide, inorganic, cellulose, or polystyrene. Administering injections containing particulate matter carries a reasonable probability of causing life-threatening adverse health consequences, such as pulmonary emboli, occlusions of other blood vessels leading to tissue death and organ damage, and phlebitis. Systemically, foreign particles can activate the immune system, cause organ dysfunction, and hemolysis. No serious injuries or deaths have been reported in connection with this issue.
