Prescriptions for GLP-1 Drugs in Young Children with Obesity See Rapid Increase

A new study led by NYU Langone Health researchers, published in Pediatrics, reveals a 310-fold increase in glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist prescriptions for children aged 8 to 11 with obesity and without diabetes between 2019 and June 2026. While overall use remains low, the rapid rise highlights evolving clinical practice in managing childhood obesity.
