NIH-Funded Trial Finds Paxlovid Ineffective for Treating Established Long COVID

A new NIH-funded randomized trial, published in *The Lancet Infectious Diseases*, has found that nirmatrelvir-ritonavir (Paxlovid) does not alleviate symptoms of established long COVID. The study, designed to address limitations of previous trials, showed no benefit for 15- or 25-day courses of the antiviral drug across primary endpoints related to cognitive dysfunction, autonomic dysfunction, or exercise intolerance.
