Liposuction Superior to Conservative Therapy for Lipoedema Pain and Quality of Life, Large Clinical Trial Finds

A multicenter, randomized controlled clinical trial published in The Lancet on September 5, 2026, found that liposuction was superior to conservative therapy in reducing leg pain and improving the quality of life for patients with lipoedema. After 12 months, 68% of liposuction patients achieved the primary endpoint of pain reduction compared to 8% in the conservative therapy group. However, liposuction was associated with a higher rate of serious adverse events.
